"... blimey it's good! Roberts prose is unpretentious and direct. She writes so confidently that it's impossible not to get caught up in Cameron's world. Roberts also obviously knows Manchester like the back of her hand, and there's lots of lovely local flavour for anyone else who is familiar with the city. Although Manchester has reinvented itself, it's the seediness that attracts in Dead Reckoning and Robert's writing makes you wonder why more crime novels haven't been set against this fabulously grimy backdrop.
The main thing, for me, is the characterisation. Roberts makes you believe that Cameron is a real person. When she's in danger, which she invariably is, it feels as though you're in danger too. Reading Dead Reckoning will make your pulse race with delight, it feels like edge play! Don't miss it.

'Passionate and pacey in parts - Robert's intriguing plot development kept this reader turning the pages - the long awaited third Cameron McGill novel, all 400 pages of it, flows stealthily and with great heart. Robert's clever interweaving of story lines and characters pumps suspense until the very last page...' Diva Magazine

"Like Jenny's previous two books, Dead Reckoning is a tautly-written thriller featuring private investigator Cameron McGill. The writing is so vivid, yet private-eye laconic, it seizes you by the throat from the word go... as a pacey, well-plotted crime novel, it will appeal to all lovers of good crime fiction. " Stephen Lewis, Evening Press

"I've always been a touch grumpy about the private investigator side of the genre being transported to the UK. For whatever reason, it never seems quite convincing.... But DEAD RECKONING works, and I'm off to find the previous two in the series (NEEDLE POINT and BREAKING POINT). Whereas McDermid's Manchester felt like a studious attempt to cash in on the 1990s 'Madchester' phase, Roberts's city feels realistic as it moves from the gay village to big business to suburbia. Roberts is a first-rate plotter, and the book's 400 pages zip past in an instant. And Cameron's an attractive and well-balanced heroine surrounded by a believable and well-drawn supporting cast... The sad thing about this outstanding book, though, is that it is unlikely to reach a wide audience, published as it is by a small-scale gay publishers. And that's infuriating, as Roberts' writing is up there with the best on the UK crime writing scene." Sharon Wheeler, Euro Crime (www.eurocrime.co.uk)

"With a complex and original plot, dynamic narrative and characters who seem to step off the page, Dead Reckoning... brings to life the dark and realistic world of Cameron McGill, private investigator. This is no pseudo-American copy, but a truly stimulating realisation of a uniquely British lesbian crime genre, strongly and squarely placed in modern, diverse and credible context. The story and characters have...greatly surpassed the often tongue-in-the-cheek nature of this kind of fiction, imbuing the genre with a new sense of stylistic superiority. Unputdownable. " Alys Henley-Einion, Velvet Magazine

"Roberts sensitively explores the nature of transvestism rather than sensationalising it for the sake of a lurid storyline. With clear, pacey writing and likeable characters, this is a proficient thriller but with an unusual and interesting angle" Sarah Tierney, City Life

"Jenny Roberts' third novel is a fast-paced, gripping page-turner.... The final ten chapters are absolutely compelling... Recommended. " Mark Michalowski, Shout! Magazine

"Whilst faithfully reconstructing the geography of the Gay Village, Roberts takes readers on an action-driven journey into Manchester's less familiar social spaces: the worlds of corrupt police forces and global organised crime. The characterisation of Cam and Lin seems to border on butch-femme, Sam Spade-Bridget Shaughnessy cliché, but in the book's denouément these are insightfully and humorously broadened... DEAD RECKONING is an exciting read, that happens to pack a lot of philosophical punch in between the action and amour" Rebecca Nesvet, reviewingtheevidence.com
